How do you tell people this sort of thing?

I didn't want to tell my daughter straight away - it was their anniversary and I didn't want to mess things up. But she rang on Saturday, and I couldn't manage being chirpy and not saying anything. Turns out their anniversary was the day before anyway. How do you tell your kids you have cancer, even when they're grown with kids of their own? It wasn't easy for either of us. Guess it was just as hard for my Mum, when she had to tell me Dad had terminal cancer, and then 20-some years later that her turn had come around. Anyway, after we both had a little sniffle, we decided that at least the news could be worse, the prognosis is good, and all we could do is be positive.
Eventually managed to pin down my brother - he was on holiday with the family, so I don't suppose that improved his weekend. Then across to see the in-laws to tell them, Sis- and Bruv-in-law knew that I had had a biopsy, but the parents-in-law didn't know - bit of a shocker for them.
Went over to see sis & bruv in law Sunday, whole family around for supper, much wine drunk (and so was I) so we stayed over that night.
Eventually managed to pin down my niece to tell her (she is the scarlet pimpernel of my family, damned elusive all the time!).
Once we'd told the family we could start and tell the friends...
