WAAAAAGHHHHH!!!!!!!!

The Great Man finally arrived - with the Breast Care Nurse and one of the ward nurses in tow...

She sat on the bed, he sat on the windowsill, the ward nurse guarded the door, I wondered if she was there to stop me bolting...

He took a deep breath, broke into a huge grin and said "We have some very good news for you!"

The lab results show that they have got all the cancer, with clear tissue all around. The tumour was down to 7mm from the original 4cm, all the lymph nodes were clear. The changes in the cells within the tumour were examined, and as a result the tumour has been down-graded from grade 3 to grade 2. The surgery produced everything they hoped for in terms of getting the cancer out, the cosmetic result is looking good, and everyone is really pleased! And guess what? We're pretty pleased too!!!

I still will have a month or so of radiotherapy and hormone treatment for the next five years, but there is now no cancer in my breast!

DH arrived a few minutes after the Great Man left, just in time to hold my hand while the drains were removed (which hurt quite a lot!) and then I told him the news. He smiled a bit and said "that's good then" which I thought was a bit weak - but then he sat down in the chair and started to grin like a madman, and said a few things that I am not going to share with you, dear reader, because they were meant just for me. But suffice it to say, we're pretty pleased.

All dressed for outdoors (I am wearing a bra and it's chafing a bit - I think I need a bigger one with all these dressings!), my bags are packed up and we're just waiting for a packet of antibiotics to arrive. They will have to arrive soon otherwise we're likely to get a parking ticket...
There might not be an update for a day or so, while I get my head around this news. I am not sure I still really get it...
