What a strange world it is

The first bloke to be in court for looting in Croydon works in a primary school - that's pretty depressing. The people who are looking after the next generation are supposed to be inspiring their charges to do the very best that they can - and in my book, that doesn't include ripping off electrical goodies from a store during a riot! It might be a bit reactionary and Daily Mail readerish of me, but I really hope that if the person in question is convicted that he is a) sent to prison and b) fired. Since the magistrates remanded him for sentencing by the Crown Court they are saying that they want him to have a tougher sentence that they can give... but he will probably end up in the open prison round the corner from me anyway.

Then there are the people who happily tell the world that they are involved in this - what? You just tweeted that you were looting yesterday? There is the hare-brained prat who claimed to have "had a good night in Croyden" and offered stolen goods for sale to his mates on Facebook - but now it was all a bit of a prank. Apparently. At least the idiots on Twitter who did the same had the brains to use a pseudonym... although a photo probably wasn't a great idea if anonymity was the plan

It's all calm down here on the south coast. Very glad.
